  • October 12, 2016- Indigenous Peoples Day (Take Action)—As a human rights city, Pittsburgh recognizes October 12 as Indigenous Peoples Day, and we encourage people to reflect on the history of European occupation and genocide against native peoples and to engage in truth-telling about this history. Only through a process of confronting past and ongoing human rights violations can reconciliation and healing begin, forming a foundation for a true human rights city. This year, as we work to defend and promote the human right to decent and affordable housing, we encourage people to read and discuss the United Nations Special Report on Indigenous peoples’ right to adequate housing.
